Biomass pellets that protect our forests from fire and give hill women an income of their own.
Himalayan Green Fuel LLP makes biomass pellets from fallen chir pine needles at our plant in Someshwar, Almora.
Women from local Self Help Groups collect the needles and earn an income of their own, while the forest floor is cleared of fire fuel.
Reducing forest fires. Delivering renewable fuel.
2Every summer, fallen chir pine needles carpet the forest floor across Uttarakhand. They are dry, oily and catch fire easily, feeding wildfires that damage forests, wildlife and villages.
At the same time, hill villages have few local jobs, and women rarely have an income of their own.
We saw a fire risk and turned it into a resource.
3Each woman earned about ₹25,000 in just two months of collection.
5A clean, renewable fuel that replaces coal and firewood.
